About Heraklion - Malia - Mohos - Stalis

The Heraklion Prefecture is the most populated and developed region of island as the capital city of Crete is located on its North Western borders. The most famous Minoan palace, Knossos is located on the outskirts of the city where the valley of Minoan begins.

Minoa Pediada (Valley) belongs to the municipalities of the Heraklion Prefecture and is enriched with exceptional natural beauties and easy going people. Rich in historical sites as it has been continuously inhabited from the pre-Minoan era until our days providing the core items found in the Minoan diet.

The mountainous volume of Eastern Asterousia, natural springs and traditional fountains like the one of Mousouta, Zinta, Episkopi of Partira, and Choumeri are just a few of the significant locations. Natural and artificial biotopes such as the ones of Anapodaris, Chandrou, Zinta, Kassani, and the dams of Skinias, Karavado, Ini, Partira and Amourgeles constitute a must for the visitors of Minoa Pediada.

Tsoutsouros on the South coast is the haven in the municipality of Minoa an unexpectedly striking place with sparklingly clean sea.

On the North East side of the prefecture lays the Municipality of Chersonissos, which besides its busy coastal line offers much ground for outdoor activities. The highest peak of the municipality is Selena (Moon Mountain). At a height of 1650m it shields the Lasithi plateau from the North. Nature blends with civilization, as a number of villages have harmoniously settled in throughout the years. In cycling terms the Selena region offers grounds for all-levels of cycling in combination with a rich record of historical and natural sights.

The ancient palace of Malia, the enchanting Black Holm Oak forest, the Selinari gorge, the Aposelemis dam, the cave of Milatos and Potamos beach are just a few of the sights we highly recommend.
